This vehicle has been meticulously looked after and regularly serviced. A full lube service has also just been done. Before leaving the UK it had a complete inspection of the gearbox and transmission drive train by the most well-known Mercedes/ Benz-appointed Unimog dealership in the UK (A.C. Price, in Ingleton). The base vehicle with bare accommodation box was shipped to South Africa and professionally transformed here to its current configuration (so that the materials would suit local African and not European conditions). The cupboards were built in mid 2005 by WJ Motorhomes, who incidentally also build the furniture for the Mercedes Sprinter and Iveco motor homes. The body is made from glasonite sandwich panels, an extremely light and strong modern U.K.-made product, apparently not available in SA yet. It does not require a steel or other type of frame as the supporting strength is in the wall panels themselves. Inside this panel is a 25mm layer of insulation and a further 12mm plywood panelling altogether making the side walls a very comprehensive 50mm thick. The windows are several, yet small, sliding and tinted, for security. Every opening is double locked for additional defence. The vehicle is alarmed throughout, but you have the capability of disarming the sensors to move around in the back whilst the cab’s alarm is active. There is nothing missing from this exceptionally unique and well-prepared vehicle and the new owner will be able to set off into Africa to cover any terrain thinkable, by packing just personal belongings. The vehicle will be sold with full fuel tanks too. It is fully, comprehensively and very well appointed, the ultimate in comfortable and convenient off- road adventure travel. It was built up for a trans-Africa expedition during 2006, which will not happen as the owner’s personal circumstances have changed.

Although located in South Africa, this Unimog is currently registered in the Isle of Man, a tax-advantageous island in the Irish Sea, and can only be imported to South Africa if it is converted from left hand drive to RHD with import duties paid, based on the value given to the chassis/cab on the Carnet de Passage. By law it may not be imported whilst left hand drive, apparently without exception. A kit is available for this LHD to RHD conversion though.
However, the vehicle may also remain legally in the country on its foreign plates under the Carnet de Passage with which it was brought in, and which simply needs to be transferred to the new owner and renewed annually, although the vehicle then must be driven over a foreign border every few months. The new owner would need an address in the Isle of Man to take over the registration, which can easily be arranged. This option could potentially offer a further advantage to the buyer in that the seller is also offering a registered but never-before used offshore company in the Isle of Man, for a nominal additional R100.000. This company had similarly a future planned for it, but is no longer needed. So, for a nominal extra cost you would acquire 100% shares of a fresh new company, which never needs to pay tax as the Isle of Man Government does not charge corporate tax at all to companies registered there, from 2006 onwards, and the Unimog. For interest, the current annual road tax fee for this Unimog is £5 per annum (if it were to go back to the Isle of Man) and no roadworthies or ‘M.O.T.’s ever need to be done on it, unlike on the U.K. mainland. The company on offer has an attractive name beginning with the letter A (good for alphabetical listings) and will be universally and easily applied to almost any business category. It has a corporate logo designed already, digitally created by professionals in the UK ready for use on letterheads and business cards, etc.
