Gunmen kill eight Kenyans, including five policemen, after ambushing a police patrol near the border with Somalia, police say. Several people were also wounded in the attack close to the north-eastern town of Liboi, police added. Liboi is used by Kenya to send supplies to its troops fighting the al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab group in Somalia as part of an African Union (AU) force. There are regular attacks along the border from bandits and militants. It is not clear who carried out the attack.

At least four people have been killed and several injured by a grenade attack on a bus in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, the interior ministry says. The blast hit the 32-seater bus near the Eastleigh suburb, which is home thousands of ethnic Somalis. No group has said it was responsible for the attack. But the Eastleigh area has suffered several attacks in the past blamed by officials on Somalia's al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab militant group.

Police in Mombasa are looking for a man who hurled a hand grenade at two British tourists who were in a van Thursday morning causing panic in Likoni area. The Russian made hand grenade, however, failed to explode even after hitting the vehicle’s window. Police said the van was headed to Mombasa from Diani in Kwale with two British tourists on board when a man hurled a grenade at it as it slowed down. According to police, the tourists were headed for Maasai Mara when the incident happened.

Witnesses say more people are seriously wounded after at least two gunmen burst into the church in Likoni and started shooting indiscriminately. The attackers managed to escape on foot before police arrived. No group has said it carried out the raid, but officials have blamed Somali Islamist militants for similar attacks.

Kenya has ordered all urban-based Somali refugees to move into designated camps in a bid to end attacks by militant Islamists. Interior Minister Joseph Ole Lenku said the directive had been issued because of the "emergency security challenges" facing Kenya. A refugee group condemned the decision as illegal. Somalia's al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab group has carried out a spate of attacks in Kenya in recent years.

A car bomb has exploded outside a police station in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, killing four people. Police were taking the occupants of the car in for questioning in the Pangani neighbourhood when it exploded, the interior ministry said. Two of those killed were police. It is unclear who was behind the blast, but Nairobi has been targeted in the past in attacks attributed to Somali al-Shabab militants, who oppose Kenya's military involvement in Somalia. There are no reports of casualties there.

Witnesses in Mpeketoni said gun battles lasted several hours, while several buildings were set on fire. The town is on the mainland near Lamu island, a well-known tourist resort ... [...] "They came to our house at around 8pm and asked us in Swahili whether we were Muslims," local resident Anne Gathigi told the AP news agency. "My husband told them we were Christians and they shot him in the head and chest," she said.
